Loki, also known as Loptr, Hveðrungr or Loge (in Wagner's tetralogy), is one of the main gods in the pantheon of Norse mythology.Belonging to the Aesir groups, Loki is the god of mischief, discord and illusions.He is the son of the giant Farbauti and Laufey, as well as the father of several monsters: the snake Jörmungand, the wolf Fenrir and the goddess of the dead world Hel. He is also the mother of Odin's eight-legged horse Sleipnir. Despite his origins, he is welcomed into the Aesir divine pantheon by Odin.Loki is capable of metamorphosis; he is as impulsive and irresponsible as he is clever and cunning. The Aesir often resort to him to solve problems that he himself has often caused. Of a fundamentally negative and treacherous nature, his jealousy leads him to cause the death of the god Baldr. Furious, the Aesir punish him by tying him with the entrails of one of his sons under a snake whose venom drips on his face.
